They Shall Not Grow Old

Anyone seen any of this? Directed by Peter Jackson, WW1 footage has been restored to near modern standards.
very strange to watch soldiers walk around in full colour, in HD, and at the right speed (computers were used to add extra frames)
They even got forensic lip readers so they could get voice actors to add dialogue.
type in They Shall Not Grow Old Jackson Kermode into youtube to see an interesting interview about it

I have seen snippets of it and I urge everyone to see this film because it looks spectacular. When you watch them go from black and white to colour it is mesmerising and the detail is brilliant, would not expect any less from Jackson, it is great to see that he put so much of himself into what I see as a very important project.

Is it just me that finds Mark Kermode insufferable?

I like him, especially when he rants. His review of Sex and The City 2 is comedy gold.

Most of them died ugly deaths, pulverised by shrapnel or gassed or machine gunned to death. Fucking awful industrialised killing.

I'll look this out. Have read nothing but fantastic reviews of this.
Like Mark Kermode. He did a review of one of the Transformers movies that just consisted of him smashing his head against a metal door.

Mark Kermode is an absolute fist. He fails to get good humour so for me he's subhuman.

**Most of them died ugly deaths,**
Most of them came home. The overall mortality rate was about 5% (although horrifically higher among junior officers).
But that 5% was enough to put war memorials in pretty well every town and village in the commonwealth (I think there are 24 or so "thankful" villages in the UK).

The total number of military and civilian casualties in World War I, was around 40 million. There were 20 million deaths and 21 million wounded. The total number of deaths includes 9.7 million military personnel and about 10 million civilians.
Ugly, industrial scale slaughter.

This looks great.
Amazing isn't it that it's now being seen as aincent history. The kids of today probably think about it like I'd think about Trafalgar. But I used to speak to old harry in the east ham railway man's club about his time in the trenches.

Sacrificed with bully beef in their stomachs.
Take note of what we do to baby bulls and how we take them from their mothers.
It's interesting on Anzac day in Australia that the Sydney Roosters play the St George Dragons in the marquee NRL game. The same thing happens to baby roosters as baby bulls.
Is this all some kind of cosmic balance sheet

This time of year, I rake out my War poets pocket book.
With proud thanksgiving, a mother for her children, England mourns for her dead across the sea. Flesh of her flesh they were, spirit of her spirit. Fallen in the cause of the free-They went with songs to the battle, they were young,Straight of limb, true of eye, steady and aglow. They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted. They fell with their faces to the foe. They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old. Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning,We will remember them.
They shall not grow old. 10/10. Not a fan of Jackson films . Apart from Lovely bones book-film adaptation. But he does do first class Productions, and this is no exception.
With the recent Vietnam documentary series, compelling. Five came back. ( War time Hollywood directors in WW2) Watching again the superb WW2 in colour.
Good to see such well produced fine Military ( that are also history lessons) documentaries reminding all of the harsh conflicts and sacrifices made.

Seen a bit of it already and it's quite stunning and yet extremely sad.
Thought I'd share these pictures named "Foreign fields in a new light" on the BBC website with you fellas. Stunning pictures and yet quite haunting.
